I'm starting from scratch with an early 302 block cast in Mexico.
I'm looking for recommendations for a good stock+ rebuild. I don't want to go all out for the 1970 bronco recipient because It'll be mainly a street driver with occasional offroad. I'd like to stay as stock as possible and want to know what things I can do to "spice" it up a little. I've already got another stock 302 with cylinder heads, 2bbl intake, autolite 2100 carb, etc.
my kind of engine. check out the ford racing catalog and hunt up the a311 cam. it is a wonderful cam for low end torque and will pull like a mule. have the block decked and keep the over bore to 030 if possible. you might find that a edelbrock or weiand 4v intake with a 2v adjustable adapter will work real nice. don't let the adapter spook you, it will allow you to move the carb around for best performance. the 2100 carb is a good all around carb and is pretty goof proof. you may already know that the 2100 was offered in several different cfm ratings. if you choose to go with a header i would stick with the shorty design and consider a single exhaust with a well thought out y pipe and 2.5 tail pipe. the stock type head is ok for most deals. i would replace the valve springs with a quality set and the retainers as well as the keepers too. consider a new or rebuilt damper as most have seen there better days.
I've been very happy with my Weiand Ation-plus manifold. It came powdercoated, so it won't stain and fade like the Edelbrock manifolds do. I'm sure the Autolite carb is great, but I gained 3-4 MPG by going to an Edelbrock 600 4bbl. That 2 barrel probably has 500 cfm primaries, whereas the Edelbrock has 300 cfm secondaries, so as long as you stay out of the secondaries, you'll get better milage. However, it certainly gives you the ability to drain gas much faster when you need to smoke Mustangs at full throttle on the highway. I can't help it, it's just too tempting. I especially love it when they have the convertible top down with the windows up, so you can see the price tag still on it. What can I say, mod motors are inferior, and deserve being shamed by the pushrod thumping, fossil-sucking, fire breathing monsters that we drive! -TK

fatfenders i would be happy to dig a little deeper. the 302 works well with a little back presure. in this case the guy wants to remain stock or a little more than stock. the single exhaust will flow really good numbers if properly thought out as to y pipe and tail pipe length. the shorty unequal length header can be packaged well. fatfender if i were working with a high horsepower deal here i would go a different route, but in this case i feel he wants to keep the bronco close to stock and wants to keep cost down.
I think the most important thing you can do is run a flattop piston with the 4 eyebrows in the top. Raising the compression ratio a little bit is a win-win situation for power and fuel mileage.
well heck guys if if well plan on flat tops will big valve reliefs for the coke bottle size valves. lets go with a forged flat top so we can run that 200 shot of nitrous and while we are at it lets throw a bunch of gear and some bahama momma wheels and tires to hook this hot rod up. plus we will need to consider a pair of wheelie bars with lets say a pair of 38x15.50-16.5lt dick cepek mudders. we will also need to slow this baby down so lets rig up a anchor from lets say something like the uss north carolina. oh by the way i always enjoy the posts and look forward to login on each day.the stuff above is meant for entertainment only. hahahahahahahaahha!!!
Naw, let's just get a blower and nitrous! Just go ahead and take the hood off, you'll need the clearance, and who wants to carry around a heavy hood anyway? I'm thinking 5.88 gears and stickers all over it. Don't worry about the anchor, let's just get 'em a 'chute! -TK
the chute is a good idea too. lets get two and put one on both ends because everyone uses reverse at times. the blower and nitrous is a killer idea. do they make a bottle warmer big enough to cover a 55 gallon drum.... cant have too much niirous ya know!! what color would be good for this monster.
another good idea and how about two. one mounted up front and one mounted in the rear.tie these babies together and add a second 55 gallon drum of nitrous to feed this big ole hungry baby.
Why not go nuts and rip the engine out, put a bored/stroked 460 out to a 514ci engine with a blower and that 200 shot of nitrous. You could probably fit one of those jet engines they use in drag cars in the bed too, just a few extra lbs of thrust. Now it would be like a video game where at the flick of a button you have turbo to make you go faster. I think a mazda 5 speed and a 8.8 28 spline axle will do the trick. The 31 spline is to strong.

torqueking and mustang you guys are outstanding citizens. afterburners and jet engines all on a 70 bronco wow its great to be an american. the burning question is where exactly are we going to afix the wings. i'm thinking a mono wing design mounted up high. it will look like a baby c130 and then we can hang the 55's under the wings. now i know that being mounted low under the wings might hender ground clearance, but with the wheel and tire combination that you two fine americans pick out will correct that problem licky split.
