can anyone tell me how to get the fuel lines off the fuel filter.. ? I have a 2000 expy. I went out and brought a new filter, I bought the fancy little disconnect tool. I crawled under my truck, located the fuel filter. SO far so good. I released the clamps on the filter, again easy. I installed the disconnect tool and pushed it into the couplink and the hose would not budge. I pushed it in further again nothing. I tried both ends, inlet and outlet.. The tool fits inside the connector but they won't release. I relieved pressure in the line I read to this this i could just disconnecting my fuel stop switch, and running the engine till it died. (the only thng was once i disconnected the fuel stop switch, the truck wouldn't start at all)So I assumed the pressure was relieved. But no matter how hard I pushed the disconnect tool into the line connector, it would not release. Any help PLEASE!!
Make sure the quick disconnect is the right size. Spray the connections with penetrating oil. Push in the quick disconnect tool and spin it around as much as possible. You have to push on the disconnect tool and pull on the filter at the same time. You will get fuel leaking once you've broken the connection so be prepared.
You sometimes need 3 hands for this job. I always spin the filter around a few times(after releasing the clamps) to loosen it up a little. Once the tool is fully inserted you have to grasp the filter with one and and the fuel line with the other. While pulling in opposite directions and making sure the tool stays fully inserted the fuel line will eventually come out. This isn't easy. I think it's a crappy design since even when using the proper tool it still is a bitch to get it apart. Good Luck because you'll probably need it. This is one job where the labor definately costs more than the part.
thank guys.. who's idea was this to use these stupid cose connectors? what ever happened to the rubber hose and the hose clamp? it worked for the first hundred years!!
They alway make things harder, when they say there better.
Clamps are not used because of the fuel pressure on fuel injected engines, as far as I know. This method is probably less expensive than other fittings. If it's a PITA, you're doing it right.
2000Expy, what is a PITA? and also i had a 92 Aerostar fuel injection, and it had the rubber hose and hose clamps...So much easier. O well i will try again this evening after work. thanks again guys and Gal Don't want to offend!!
