I'm curious if anybody knows what the right idle RPM should be for my truck (maybe if one of you has the same). It's a 1988 F-150 2X4, with a 351w. There's no real super mod's on it (yet) so I'm probally looking at what a stock idle should be. It's away being painted right now but, I should have it back by the end of the week and can check things out. I've done a bunch of tune-up work and tweaking but I have no reference to go by for that aspect of a smooth running engine. Thanks all in advance!
If it's fuel injected, the idle speed is determined by the computer. You can mess with the idle stop adjustment, but it will just cause problems. There is a certain procedure for setting the idle stop screw for a fuel injected vehicle.
Thanks for the input. I'm not actually looking to change the idle using something like an idle adjustment. I was just curious what it should be so I know if there is something that's pulling it down when it's not supposed to. (ie. bad air mixture due to a stickin EGR valve, etc.)
