Help

I'm installing the motor into my truck. I can not get the the fly wheel to mate up with the torque converter. Two of the bolts are sticking out perfectly. the other two are not coming through. I have completely bolted the tans to the motor hoping that would push them through, nothing. anyone have any tricks. I have tried everything I know.

Converter is probably not seated all the way into the trans properly and is cocked.

Question: If the crank was lasted used with a manual tranny, have you removed the pilot bushing/bearing?

when i bought the engine, the guy said make sure to use the bolts off of my 360, because the engine was being set up for a manual transmission and the bolts from my 360 would be shorter. My friend did accidently use one of the bolts off the 390 and we had some issues with the longer bolt not letting the motor turn because it was up against the block. I installed the shorter one and everything worked great. I hope this will tell you more. Thanks for your help.

In the center of the crank flange there is a machined hole. There will be a bushing to make the hole smaller to fit the end of the manual trans input shaft. Remove it.

Also on the torque converter there is a drain plug, it also has to line up with a hole in the flywheel.

One way is to find a bolt with apprx the same size as the hole. Thread it in and then pull it sideways. Easier said than done, but it worked for me.

ok, i got the pilot bushing out, lined up the torque converter, but the stud heads aren't coming through. there's no binding, they just aren't pulling through. any ideas now. i don't remember ever having these issues before.

by the way, the trany leak is in the dip stick neck. I'm guessing it's needs a new seal.

the diameter of thr boss on the front of the torque converter has to be smaller than the hole in the end of the crankshaft................check that
if it is, just wiggle the torque converter and pull toward engine, it should seat against the flexplate without binding
