is there anything to taking the whole spare tire carrier off the passenger side quarter panel? ( you know, the four bolts) is there anything inside the panel, brackets or a mounting plate, or is it as simple as bolting it on and off to the panel?
There are nuts spot welded to a plate on the inside of the body. Best access is to remove the right rear tail light assy., then reach up inside. I actually have an inside spare mount that I grabbed off of an 84 goin to scrap. Haven't decided whether to use it on mine or hers with a roll pan, or not at all.
not understanding why you have to access the nuts that are welded in place. I just took mine off and on and off etc... very simple.
I just asked the same thing, and was told by the bodyshop that just painted my bronco that you can just unbolt it and told me mine was easy but they have had some be a problem when there is a lot of rust on the bolts and the welded nuts break free.
That is exactly why I put that in there. I pulled the carrier off of my wifes EB and two of the nuts inside broke free, one on the top set, one on the bottom set.
oooooooh that makes more sense. I thought the plate with the spot welded nuts on it may rattle and clang around without the bolts in it. So I don't even need to remove the tail light just bolt on bolt off, right?
