Coolant flush needed?

Trucks got 61,5 on the coolant more than likely (2nd owner). I used a q-tip to remove some of the brown gunk on the bottom to inspect. It doesnt appear to be granual. fluid is clear otherwise. Sorry for the crappy pic.

I'm odering a coolant filter first thing in the morning. My degas bottle has a crappy brown crud in the bottom of it, and post of the fluid has puked out.

That brown crud is probably casting sand. Coolant filter is best investment you can put on these motors.

I have 2 questions you guys can probably help with-

Where is the best source to get the coolant filter kit?

How many gallons of coolant will be required for a flush?

You can purchase the kit from dieselsite.com, highly recommended - if you have any questions they are more than happy to help.

When you install your kit, squeeze the big hose by the firewall several times before you cut it in half. I did this and it seemed to push the coolant out of the hose resulting in zero coolant loss. I would still place a towel underneath just to be sure. Hope it helps.
