Please help me. fuel problems

i'm new to this forum and fairly new to power strokes. i bought a 99 ext cab 120k miles and an automatic. i put the edge evo 2 and the bhaf kit among other things.
my problem...
i was accelerating yesterday and once i slowed down i noticed it had a severe lack of power. at full throttle i only get 15 lbs boost instead of the normal 21 it is gutless though. especially if i am already moving. the lift pump in the tank is working, but i noticed there is no pump noise coming from the engine before it starts. i just replaced the fuel filter, not any better. starting when cold takes five to 7 seconds till it runs. when warm 2-3 and hot it start just a little slower than normal. it seems like its running just off the lift pumps pressure.
any ideas.

Welcome to FTE.
We just went through something like with with Rocket Science's truck and he was 8 quarts low on oil.
If your oil level is good, then without making a very long discussion, I recommend that you migrate your fuel pump to the end of the fuel pickup. It will make a night and day difference because the pump to use is physically larger than the Ford pump and it also is much easier to push a fluid toward the engine than to try and pull it from the tank to the pump.
Going to find some links for you to read, I've spent a lot of time on this subject, trying various solutions and the best one is to put the pump in the tank.

This was my first try.
https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/2...el-supply.html
.
Second try

https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/4...ifference.html

And the final: putting the pump into the tank.

I'll check back later on.

sounds like you might also have a boost leak as well, check all your clamps are tight and don't have any blowby oil on them. Your fuel pump is on the frame rail right below the drivers door, thats where you need to put your ear, the pump isn't very loud when running. You might also check the hpop before you start it cold I've heard that rear oring can fail and leave you low on pressure until the hpop can get rolling which may be your problem for cold starts.

What is a bhaf kit? There is only one pump in the truck, located under the driver seat along the frame rail. It should come on and run for about 20 seconds when you turn the key to WTS. Sounds like you have a boost leak or a fuel supply problem. Boost leak is easiest to check so check all your intake boots and check the up pipes for leaks as in presence of soot.

You can check the fuel pressure with a 0-100psi fuel gauge that you can pick up from any farm supply store for about $10.

EDIT: what Benny said except he typed faster.

Nice setup you got Kwik! Wish I had seen it before I bought all the stuff to do the Hutch Mod. Think I'll try the hutch for a while and see how it works, then that(in tank pump) will give me something to do later!!

BHAF big honkin air filter (big rig filter)

i didn't see any air leaks, it doesn't have any torque at low rpm/speed. can i just pull off the fuel line or will i have to worry about bleeding the system. could it be the fuel pressure relief valve, if so where is it located at?

Kind of sounds like you may be thinking these engines use a high pressure fuel injection pump like the cummins. They don't. Completely different fuel delivery system.

unless you get some dirty fuel or the truck was not taken care of then the fuel pump really doesnt have a tendency to clog. there is a mixing chamber in the tank that has a couple of screen filters in it, but when I took mine out at 250K miles they werent that dirty. your main filter is in the fuel bowl in the valley of the engine.

Unlike the cummins, the fuel in a powerstroke is intensified by the injector itself. HEUI (Hydraulically actuated Electronically controlled Unit Injector) The HPOP(high pressure oil pump) uses up to 3000PSI worth of oil to intensify 50PSI of fuel from the fuel pump up to 25000 PSI into the cylinder.
Oil is truly the lifeblood of the PSD, do not neglect the oil.

that makes sense. i think i fixed it. i reprogrammed it then cleared the DTCs after i took off the fuel line and blew in the hose to the tank. it seemed to work, its back to being peppy. do the 7.3L have a limp mode like some of the other fords?

IIRC 0603 is a code caused by chip. The blowing out the fuel line was good work but the crap is still in the tank if that was your problem.

yes, but not even close to what you get with a gasser

That is correct, common code on chipped trucks.
