thanks guys. The other rims are stacked in a corner of my garage waiting for the next possible project? Im not sure what im gonna do wtih them yet, but i will hold on to then a little while. I know there are a few people interested in them. they are level itmust be the slant in the driveway. When measured to the fender from the floor ther is only a 1/4" difference with the front being the lower end
took if for a long drive today all around the city, started to notice my rear is howling a little bit. Anyone have any idea as to what it could be. It has been leaking oil like crazy but i assumed i over filled it as they a have a bleeder valve (overflow valve) in them. Its leaking from the front pinion seal (where the driveshaft mounts up to the rear). Anyone know typically how much fluid a 9" rear is supposed to take, I filled it up to the peep hole so i could touch it with my finger.
The level sound right. The howling sound likes the front pinion bearings maybe gone. My mother had a truck that did the same noise. It was a front pinion bearing. Before we could fix it she was talked into selling the truck, by my brother who is all for chevy. No wonder we don't talk.

Level with the filler plug.
The howling could also be from someone having it apart and putting it back together with the same used gears, once the gears wear in then unless it`s with exactly the same clearance it will howl and it may not be a problem, just really annoying.
To get rid of the howling put in some saw dust in the rear end, see Sherm about getting some.....
