Automatic hubs.... are they working right?
I have a 1999 4WD Super Duty with the dash **** to engage 4wd.
My question is are the hub ***** supposed to rotate when 4wd is engaged?
If they are left in the auto lock position do they rotate to locked when I turn the **** and roll the truck?
When am I supposed to use these locks manually?
I just want to make sure I am not running with the hubs engaged when I don't need them.
The truck works in 4wd fine I just don't know how to tell if the hubs are locking and unlocking correctly.
Thanks,
George

Your hubs have a lock and auto setting, right.
The dial does not rotate
Lock is for when the auto part is broken, or when you want to make sure it truely is locked. The auto setting engages and disengages via a vacuum signal. To check that the hubs disengage, with the truck in 2wd, rotate the front driveshaft, it should turn freely. Also check that both axle ujoints by the wheels are turning, if not then you have a hub staying locked.
