I doubt they have teams waiting to hunt down people that have removed the DPF on their trucks. Yes, they are watching the companies that are producing these tunes, but as far as individuals go there is very little to be worried about.
If a cop or annual inspection catches you without a DPF the most you should get is a fix-it ticket. Also, the DPF is still just an emissions device, much like a Cat. There is no increased fine or for this particular part, if you get fined it's because you were not complying with EPA emissions laws, same as always.
You got to be kidding? When I read this kind of post I wonder just how someone becomes a dealer without the knowledge to fix the vehicles they sell. This is where the bad press starts about a manufacture. It has a Ford sign out front so this must be Ford. Run and run fast away from this place. Then call Ford and let them know what happen.
I am no expert. However IF yourState has a Emmission check I dio not see how the New Diesels with a DPF could pass the emmission check if the DPF was missing. When you do the emmission Check in Ohio they dialthe year of the vehicle and the emmission numbers come up. Now new vehicles in Ohio do not require a emmission check for I think 4 years.
Well they don't even have to do and emissions check that tests the gasses coming out of the tailpipe. If they look under the truck and see that the DPF is gone (and know what the hell it is) they won't/shouldn't pass you. All states require a visual check of the emissions system, even on diesels.

If they were really worried about clean air , All they should check is what comes out the tail pipe. If your vehicle meets the standards out the pipe
who cares whats under the hood period.
If you have a car or truck and it needs to meet a certain standard who cares if you mod or swap parts if it's about clean air ?
It not it's about MONEY ,
I had my old bronco checked: It runs better and pollutes less with the timing moved up, They make me retard the timing to pass the visual but it emits more smog , So who wins. Is it really about clean air ?
I have not had one of my vehicles checked for emissions (exhaust test or visual) since I don't know when. That is gas or diesel. You do not even have to take newer vehicles in, just pay the bill by mail or online and you get your registration. I know many states are different.
I'd point out to the tech how Ford must have made a mistake on your truck and installed a DPF by accident. Ask the tech to remove that thing for you, reflash the computer to run without the DPF (like it was sold in Mexico) and update the info in your OASIS report about all the features he corrected.
If that doesn't work then I'd find a new dealer to work on it.

Um, not in Phoenix AZ. My 04 Excursion has never been into any emissions inspection of any kind. I just pay for my renewal registration each year and keep on driving...... I have owned 2 diesels in PX and never had anyone look at my truck.
