I have a 1987 F-250 351/C6 4x4 with 96K on it.
It just doesn't have the power I wish it did.
Time for a rebuild I guess. Anyway I don't
know if its worth trying to wake up the small
block or just find a big block to rebuild and
call it a day. I guess what I'm asking is what
mods can be done to the 351 to have gobs of torkqe
compaired to the 460 without breaking the bank.
Gas milage is not really a concern I have other
vehicles. Main uses will be medium off road use
and towing a friends truck to mud bogs.
Thanks in advance, Dan
im not sure what to tell you about the engines and stuff, but i can tell you that if you do decide to sell the 351 ill make sure it has a good home :-) email me with your decision on the engine at mgbolton(No Email Addresses In Posts!)
i personally would go with a 460,a stock rebuild is a grand and you have a very durable combo and doesnt have to work very hard to do what you ask it to. youre pushing a 351w right to the edge to do what a big block will. just my .02
A 351 can be built to produce a lot of torque, but nowhere close to what a 460 can simply because of the 109 cubic inch difference; especially in the very low rpm ranges. Even a 393 or 408 stroker 351W would be hard pressed to generate the power a 460 can with the same amount of money invested in it.
