oil leak?

has anyone else had a problem with oil seeping out from under the valve covers when pulling a load or a long grade? does its sound like the gasket is junk or are the bolts just coming loose? they look to be 12-point bolts to me but does any1 know the size off-hand?thx

Have you serviced your CDR lately? it sounds like you are getting excesive presure in your crank case maybe cdr maybe blow by. It could be loose bolts or a bad gasket too. Its only when pulling a load?

Valve cover will come loose due to engine vibrations.... try tightening first, mine were standard bolts .....may be metric.

I think they are 3/8 socket. Maybe 5/16. I can't remember now. He$$ fire, now you got me wondering.

I remember now. It is the one that fits and if it is a 5/16 and 8mm will work also.

Valve cover bolts were 1/2" on mine, U joint comes in handy for the rear bolts near the firewall.

I had this problem on my 87 6.9L after a long hard off road trip. Turned out that my CDR valve was all gummed up and full. This caused alot of pressure and my gasket blew out. I got a new set of gaskets and soaked my CDR Valve in gas.Havent had the problem since and ive ran it pretty hard since. Probably worth it to clean the valve out anyways

The Vaule cover bolts on my 7.3L are 6 pt. definately not 12 pt. I think the 12 pt. bolts are on the manifold.....Still don't understand why engineers like 12 pt. bolts, but I am just a dumb *** electrician.
