Sounds like you, if not all of us, need some sort of visual deterent (alarm sticker) or they'll continue trying to get in - doing damage whether or not they're successful.
Anyone know how to fake the look of a Bait Car? :-)
Small decoy cameras, visible instead of hidden.
What about a small sticker stating the vehicle is video monitored from within; skip the fake cameras.
My Lightning's passenger door luck was punched out too. They only grabbed my book of CDs. They didn't touch anything in my console or the aftermarket stereo equipment, (which is in plane sight). It happened on my dead end street rather than a public parking lot.
Sorry for your loss. I really dont think it will matter what you do to the truck. If a thieve wants to get in he/she will. This is coming from an officer. It sucks.
people say alarms. wow pop the hood and disconnect. that was easy.
people say door protectors. now your looking to replace the window after they break it.
Only thing is try not to make you truck look like a target. I know this is hard to do when the X can be seen for ever.
My wife was at the mall taking the kid to a movie. She came out after a matinee and the lock was punched out and the door unlocked. Lucky thing, nothing was taken. Someone must have spooked the f*%^ing crackhead before he even jumped in. The only item of value in the Ex at the time was a radar detector on the dash. I had cleaned out everything the week before prior to taking it into the dealership for some work.
I just received the Varad Flashing Alarm LED in the mail yesterday. I am going to install it right where VaSheriff suggests.
Quick question to those who have installed this.... How did you wire it up? Which fuses did you tap into?
fair enough, too lazy to check for myself but thought it may be accessible from the top rather than removing the dash...guess not....
I still like ur idea Sheriff...I have an auction watched for this reason but I have been lucky so far....I have purchased many LEDs from radio shack and plan to do the same with this. LEDs made great tail lights for my other excursion...RC truck powered by nitro-methane...almost as fast as the real thing
i have a compustar alarm system! SWEET!! it has a remote with a screen on it and it shows me if someone is to close to my X and it alerts me when the alarm is activated, activated when someone is messing around, has a shock sensor, the range is pritty good. atleast a 1/4 mile to a half mile. AWSOME alarm system. you dont even know how many times im in, lets say a mall, or movie theatre and forgot to lock my doors, i look at my screen and it says unlocked, i hit the button and bingo, i have confirmation i just locked my doors!! AWSOME!! even if i am out of range when i am back in range it will let me know if the alarm was triggered so i can look all around my truck to make sure nothing happened to it. ut also has a Quiry feature, that tells me the current voltage reading and the temp inside the X, i can also start and shut off my truck with the alarm! i am VERY impressed with it, and i HIGHLY segjest it!! AWSOME system, i have the
2WSSR system
Somebody sell a plate the goes inside the door and is supposed to prevent access by prying the lock cover. This was a common problem on the 87-99 Chevy trucks as well. They would pry on the trim the surround the door handle. A company strarted making them years ago now makes them for Ford superduty and excursion. I can't remember what it is called though. Do a google search. You have to remove the inside door panel to install them. I suppose you could make your own. I wouldn't remove or cover up the key hole. That just seems like it would cause issues at some point.
I had the Viper put on mine with remote start, proximity, etc. It's a great system, but if someone really wants to steal a vehicle from me that costs $250 to fill, all the power to them....it's insured.
After having some moron break into my truck, they broke some trim pieces and scratched the truck door with a screwdriver. There was also a dent in the door near the lock I guess where they leaned into the door to get a good bite.
The body shop fixed all this a repainted. I left the lock cylinders and rods out and covered the lock cylinder holes with covers like the ones that go on the rear doors.
Then the real crime occurred. The real crooks cancelled my insurance. My wife and I have been with the same agent for 20+ years. I haven't had a ticket since 1989, and they cancelled us because we had the same claim (theft from vehicle with damage) in 2 years.
We have been paying these crooks premiums all this time, and they cancelled us!
Bill
Bill, what isurance company were you with? I want to stay far away from them!!! I had 2 accidents in less than 1 year and never had a problem with mine. Both accidents were not my fault, one was a hit and run and the other was some old lady hit me but my insurance paid my claim and went after them.
Sucks that you got cancelled by your insurance like that!!
regarding mounting the fake red secuity lights - some cars have their real alarm lights mounted beside the door's manual lock (on interior of door - ie above outside door handle)
