Ranger Custom Cab??

Found a 64 or 65 Custom cab for sale has bucket seats & console in it, also has a big grille guard. Does this truck sound like it has the ranger option, it has a 240 3sp someone took away the column shift and put it on the floor. All the bodyside trim has rivets holding it on. Rusted out tailgate, the truck runs but has a cracked exhaust manifold. Is there somewhere I could look that tells about custom cab option as well as ranger options? I could possibly purchase the truck for under $2000. Thanks

Barry, 64= straight axle, 65= I-beam. Ranger first offered in 65.

Rangers are easy to duplicate, and are trim items only, so be careful with the drool.

With rusted out tailgate I hope that you can purchase under $1000.00

1965/66 Rangers had their own specific Body Code, not used by any other model. (thank you, leonharu, for reminding me about this)

The Body Code, found on the Warranty Plate, when decoded...lists the type of seat (bucket) and the interior color.

Only three different interior colors were offered for each year.

1965: Red, Black, Palomino.

1966: Red, Black, Parchment.

If the Warranty Plate is missing, there's another sure-fire way to tell whether it's a real Ranger, or not.

The console and seat bracket mounting holes in the floorboard, the holes in the inside of the cab, below the back glass for the fuel tank cover.

Ford used a special punch to make the holes, which are perfectly round, without burrs.

A drill can't duplicate the original factory punched holes.

I like the hood ornament, looks better than you described it. Depends on the under carriage condition for me to pay around 2k. I did pay that much for my 65 model; but very soild and lack of rust was my motivation to spend that much.
Defentialy has a 65 grille & customcab feature & camper special bed.
Here's what i can decode:
F10= 65 2wd F100
J=240 cid eng
K= Kansas City assembly plant
678646= april 1965 Assembly date
M= exterior color Corinthian White
F81=
A= Trans 3spd light duty
09= Axle 3:70 ratio

F81 = Red crinkle all vinyl BUCKET SEATS F100/250 with a body code of
81B which is the Custom Cab option which is required for the Ranger package.
The rest of the tag breaks down as follows:
F10= F series 1/2 ton conventional cab
J= 240 1V 6 cylinder
K= Kansas City assy.
678646= April '65 build

Color M= Corinthian White
Trans A= Manual 3 spd Light Duty
Axle = 09= 3:70
DSO= 64= New Orleans

I had a 65 Ranger 3/4 ton auto,FE, with Black interior...699100...also a KC build...as I said HAD...

But this truck is indeed a Ranger package truck

I noticed one other thing... since this truck is a 115" wb truck...its impossible for it to be a CS...the side toolbox Im assuming you are thinking makes it a CS bed was optional on 64 up trucks...long AND shortbeds...Ive seen one other SB toolbox...its now sitting in my shed awaiting a new home

C4TZ9946100A= compartment- quarter panel tool storage, 114" & 115"wb
C4TZ9946100B= compartment-quarter panel tool storage, 128" & 129"wb

Both used 64-6

Text Body sec. 400 pg 17

There is no such thing as a CS bed...a bed is a bed...the toolbox was an option on all 2wd trucks with the styleside bed

Grrr....it's not Corinthian White...that color was not used after 1963.

M = Wimbledon White, 1964 and up.

Mitch, I don't recall saying all Ranger's were automatics.

What surprises me about this Ranger, is it's a 240.

Why would someone pay all that moola for a Ranger package and keep the standard 6 banger?

After seeing the pictures I would love to have the seats and console to install in my 65 F-100.

Bill; my fault on thinking you mention Ranger's only came Automatic; I mixed up your reply the other day on my thread about the codes for Ranger & camper special's. Russ "Leonhran, posted that he only knew of Rangers being auto's.
