My issue is that the valve has stopped working. It worked before I replaced the valve assembly inside the pedestal.
I did delete the AIH while I was there.
Should I get 12 volts at one of the pins on the solenoid connector?
The tube and sensor on the front of the motor was replaced not long ago. I can not see it going bad already or being plugged as everything was working perfect before repairs.
Exhaust Back Pressure Regulator (EPR) — Is a variable position valve that controls exhaust back pressure during cold ambient temperatures to increase cab heat and decrease the amount of time needed to defrost the windshield. The powertrain control module (PCM) uses the measured exhaust back pressure, intake air temperature and engine load to determine the desired exhaust back pressure.
Yes it reads the temp from the air intake as one of the inputs for the valve operation. Having replaced the EBP tube & sensor recently the IAT sensor is what comes to mind.
The manual on DVD isn't exactly laid out in what I consider a user friendly fashion so I may have missed something, but here's more info on the IAT.
Dan, is yours an early or late 99? Chase (superduty4x4) said his EBPV still closed after he disconnected his IAT sensor but thought it may be due to his having an early 99 that had no AIH.
Chris is right- when I unplugged the IAT sensor on my early it did not keep the EBPV from doing its thing. I figure the system must be dependent on the IAH on the later trucks, which is why unplugging the IAT will kill the EBPV on the later trucks but not my early 99.
The IAT sensor is the one that we move out of the way during the 6637 swap?
Yes that's the same one. Some folks just unplugged theirs and left the sensor in the air box. It's a gray plastic sensor with a wire in the middle of it connected to the plug.
Here's some info I found on the EBPS. It has an Integrated Cicuit (IC Chip) inside it. I suspect other sensors do as well, at least sensors that convert pressure or temp reading to a signal that the PCM can interpret. ICP, EOT and EOP come to mind.
This is a fuzzy pic but the only thing I have to illustrate this IC.
