Theres some links to whet your appetite. The Aod isn't too bad if you don't abuse
it with 500hp and towing like a maniac while leaving the fluid in until it smell like a
house on fire. A temperature gauge for the tranny any transmission will ensure it
lives a happy life. Since the fluid's life gets cut in half for like every 10(or20) degrees
above 170 degrees!! So in a perfect world the fluid will last say 75,000 miles but get it
up to 250* and that goes out the window even if it was only at 250 for 5 minutes.
A good ovrsized cooler is a given and do not reuse a cooler from an old tranny unless
you flush the crap out of really well. Using a quality fluid and keeping an eye on it
will ensure it does it's job. Pull out the dipstick and let it drip onto a clean paper towel
then wipe it off and put it into a bottle of new fluid and let that drip about the same
amount of fluid onto a different spot, You should see the new fluid spread out(1-3") and look nice and pink while the old fluid just sits there in a 1/2" spot and looks dark. Doing
that every motor oil change will give you an idea of the life left in the fluid.
