I was wondering if anyone can suggest where I can get longer than stock wheel studs for my 1975 F250? It has the HD dana front. The stock ones aren't long enough to accomodate my new wheels. Can anyone tell me what the technical size is on these studs as well? Thanks
Which wheels are you using?
Aftermarket aluminum wheels require a shouldered lug that actually enters the wheel. It does not secure the wheel in the same fashion as steel wheels do. By installing longer wheel studs and securing a std style acorn lug nut, you will run the risk of breaking the studs.
I believe that instead of longer studs, you should be looking for the proper lug nut.
Here is an example of a wheel lug nut that is designed for an aluminum wheel with a very thick center. These are designed for a weld racing wheel. This wheel is thick, and the studs are actually flush with the edge, and do not actually penetrate the wheel completely.
These lug nuts are designed for this style of aluminum wheel, and I suspect it is what you are looking for. Weld Racing 601-1426 - Weld Racing Lug Nuts - summitracing.com
Again, this is just an example. It will be a good idea to verify the proper lug nut with the wheel manufacturer. If you get some that are too long the wheel will never tighten properly, and it willl break the wheel studs.
