Pull the number one spark plug.Put your finger over the hole and have someone bump the motor over with the coil wire disconnected. When you feel a rush of air from thr cylinder stop. Now turn the crank pulley with a socket and line up the timing pointer with the 0 or TDC mark on the balancer.Install the distributor with the rotor pointing at or just past the number one terminal on the cap. This will get you close. If it is a EFI motor you will need to disconect the spout connector at the distributor and set the timing with a light.
