Ok guys due to gas prices through the roof. I am looking at buying a crew cab diesel for my small construction co. I got 2 gas trucks now. Now im looking through the Auto Locator some of you fellas may know this weekly magazine. Its been my favorite weekly reading since 1980. Anyhow I would like to go diesel and would like you guys to give me some pointers on what to look for while shopping. I been scared of things like thin cylinder walls, injector trouble, and mold in the fuel tank???
I know my gas engines with my eyes closed but diesel seems to be the way for a hard working and pulling truck. I do have 24 foot enclosed cargo trailer. weighs about 10,000 loaded and it kills my 351 in the 250
Throw me some ideas anything is helpful here. am looking to stay under $7,000 is this reasonable and milage 200,000 area. Help
you might be able to get close to that. i paid like 15k for my 97 with 157k on it. but i hear of guys getting them cheaper all the time. it just depends on what all you want. but let us know.
Paid 5600.00 for my 95 dully with 98000 on it and in good condition. And this truck can pull a house off its foundation! You might want to look at the price of diesel before you buy. The motors are easy to work on and this forum can help with any problems.
Boots, It might be best for you to scout around and find a truck or two that you like then come back and tell us about them. Then the guys can ask many questions that you may already have the answers for and in return we can ask you or tell you to watch for certain conditions.
In general it's really not a whole lot different than shopping for a gasser. Your looking for maintenance records, wear & tear, oil leaks in the valley of the engine, what comes out of the exhaust when it is first started and how long did it last, Did it start right up? how did the truck handle, shift etc, etc.
Thanks guys I have 3 in mind now all diesel one is power stroke the others are the 7.3 without turbo. First things first should I be looking at just power strokes or are the 6.9 and 7.3 ok also. I am lining these up for the weekend to look at then I will check back with you guys before I make any offers. Thanks again fellas!

Ouch that no good! Sorry to hear that!!!
Thanks for the compliments on my truck.... Really don't want to sell it, but even 20 MPG (more like 18) on the highway, still isn't enough for the amount of commuting I'm doing next year... so she has to go...

Rog, I have one already 02 Honda CBR 954RR. I'm going to be commuting 800 miles round trip twice a month starting in September (back and forth from my university to where my Girlfriend goes) and yes... she's worth it. Don't want to have bike up here, to nice to get messed up by some drunk kid tipping it over. So truck has to go.... Don't worry though I'm not leaving the forums and i'll get another PSD someday... I said that same thing after I sold my MINT 250 to pay for school... here we go again.
I'm looking to get a 02 Mustang GT 5-speed. Dad has one and he gets 26MPG's on the highway and runs 87.... ah be nice to not have to pay a dolor more a gallon...
