I have a 1983 Bronco with a 4" lift kit on it (suspension lift) and I have been told I have some very serious issues with the U-Joints. All 3 of them are bad and I need to know how difficult it is to replace them. What brand of U-Joints and replacement hubs would you all suggest? I'm thinking Warn for the hubs but I have no clue about the U-Joints. Thanks in advance.
I would go with Neapco over Spicer. Run down to any drive shaft repair shop They sell these U-joints and most prefer neapco over spicer and im sure you can get them cheaper than Napa because they buy them at wholesale price.
If you have angle problems that are causing too much strain even the best of u joints
will be stressed and eat away the cross. Adjustable Alignment Bushings Pair
If you have to even cut a inch or two off the front springs to get the angles right
and save your tires, ujoints and steering geometry it is worth it, unless you really need
the lift height or you have a lot of money. This goes for the axle u joints and the ones
in the driveshaft itself you need to consider what is more important the reliability or
the look of the truck!!
I appreciate the replies about the U-Joints. My next question is how difficult is it to reseal the hubs after pulling the axle shafts and redoing the U-Joints? Is there some kind of torque spec I need to follow for doing this?
