Question Rotor Question???

Hey guys, its me again. I had asked about the JUNK wheel adaptors. I found a machine shop to redrill the bolt pattern, BUT the back space of the wheels is another problem. In the rear the tires will hit the bed without the spacers/adaptors. I can make spacers with no problem out of STEEL.

Next problem, the front wheels the center of the wheels hole is too small and wont fit over the bearing if it goes back with no wheel adpator spacer. I wish he'd DUMP these stupid wheels and get the right ones!! ( I needed a rant) anyway on to the question. Is it possible to put a Ford rotor of some kind on a Nova/Camaro subframe?? Like I said I can deal with the rear, but I'd rather not use a spacer on the front with longer studs if I dont have to!!

These junk adaptors are really cracked, and to top it all off, they were made to either be used as adaptors or spacers. The hoes are SLOTED to a unilug pattern of either 4 3/4" or 4 1/2". What a mess!!HELP!!!

Terry, if the rotor or wheel gets redrilled, then just use the steel spacer and the longer stud/lugnut as you will do in the rear. However, even with friends, to protect your business, you should have the customer buy AND pay for any machine work, spacers, etc and then "allow" you to install his stuff as opposed to you or the business to pay ans then sell the product/service as part of the other work. Liability is not a good thing when something goes south. Even family will sue (mitroae) when this is involved.
Just a thought.

Terry,

I'm thinking its time to convince the owner to pony up and fix this problem once and for all by doing what it takes to make the truck have matching lug patterns front and rear and to step up to the plate and buy a set of wheels that actually fits the truck (offset, etc)

You do too good of work to have it all go south because of something silly like wheel adapters.

Thanks guys! I am hoping I can convince him to buy new wheels. The wheels dont look right on this truck even if I could get them on safely! I hate to get in the middle of this liability stuff, and I dont want to take a chance on such a thing.

I think its his problem and he'll have to deal with it!!

Atta boy!
I know its not an easy thing to do, but in the long run he'll thank you for it.

Besides, if you do manage tomake it all work with the cheesy adapters, when it eventually breaks the guy will tell everyone that you were the one who built his truck, and you were the one who screwed it up. He'll gloss over his part of insisiting on using the wrong wheel set-up.

Show him some pics of some of our members trucks, Lord knows we have some absolute gorgeous trucks on this site

Good luck
Bobby

Hey Bobby, I just talked to the guy. He's goin to put the wheel adaptors on HIMSELF when he gets here.HE's goin to get 2 more for the front that are made of billet aluminum. He said that he totally understood how unsafe it was and he'd sign a waver of liability to me, and he'd drive real slow home. Then he said he was going to buy new wheels at home and get them for the pattern its got now.

I said that would be ok. Of course after he talks to his wife she might convince him to send the wheels or bring them with him, when he comes to get the truck? That would make more sense? I'll just have to wait and see??

Thanks guys for the permission to vent!

Terry,
For my fronts with the Cordoba rotors, the bolt pattern was the same as my Ford rears, but had the same problem with the hub dia. being to large. I solved this by turning down the outer dia. of the hub to match the rears. now all four are the same. Now I know if and when I need new rotors I'll need to do the same to them. But it works...

Terry, good news. You will do you both a favor on this. And ditto all of comments from Bobby.
Mike: that is what I did to my hubs when I was using some of the older Cragars on the front. It took only a small amount off. I use a 15 x 7 std offset and have had no probs in years. It is so close that the wheel gets centered on it own as I spin to lug location. When I got new rotors, I took the wheel and the old rotors so the O.D. got copied to +-.0010" and fit the wheel so nice. I involved no paperwork or people and I mounted everything myself to avoid lia fear from the help. Worked great.
TerrY when do we see pics of the subject truck ??

Wink Good News!!

I talked to Jim and he's goin to bring down some wheels that FIT, and drive it home with the correct fititing wheels! Then buy the wheels he wants at a local tire store and be on his way!! This way theres NO problems!! Jon, I'll try to get my lovely young wife to post some pics of the outside of the truck, that I've already taken. This has been a bad week so far........... The axle he ordered came in wrong, (wrong bolt pattern) the compressor from Mid Fifties came in wrong (serpentine belt and not V belt) the metal I ordered in to make the condensor mounts came in wrong So far this week, I almost think I'd been better to stayed in bed I think I do see light at the end of the tunnel, I just hope it aint a train
