whenever i leave my truck sit for a period of time and start it up it starts very hard. i let my gpr led light kick out fire it up and then its...romp romp romp romp romp and while its romping the blue smoke is chugging out of my stacks. as soon as i drive it it kicks off. the weather has been low 30's every night and sometimes 20's. but when i plug my truck in it doesnt romp and blows no blue smoke. obvioulsly i should plug it in at night but what is that cause of my problem here? thanks for the help
Bob, do you have the GPR LED, or are you just looking at the wait to start light. I am leaning towards the GPR ( glow plug relay ), sorry, just saw you sig. I would start checking glow plugs, or connections to the relay
I'd be looking at the glow plugs too. The romp, romp, romp you hear is generally caused by two things: cold cylinder temperatures unable to burn injected fuel properly, and cold, thick oil in HEUI injected engines. Ever start an old D-8 Cat in cold weather? They romp (albeit much more slowly), blow smoke rings and slobber a bit until warmed up. In really cold weather I often run a tank of gas through the pony engine before attempting to start the main engine.
if anyone has the 0.99 glow plugs that they got from autzone and would like to help a fellow fte out it would be greatly appreciated! and id pay the shipping and give more money for the glow plugs as well

Do the resistance checks first, and again, look athe connections, might just be loose. My fingers are crossed for you
haha right.. thats never the case.. well im back to being laid off again due to weight restrictions on the road i mite be smelling a road trip..haha... ever replace gp's before?
From what I hear, the hardest part is getting the valve covers off. Once you get down that far, it's pretty much like changing a spark plug. Thats what I hear anyway. I just have heard that they can sometimes break off so be careful when applying pressure. Good luck.
