Hey guy's, I'm looking for new gears for the X. I am currently running 3.73's on a v10 with 295/75/16s. I am wanting to go to 4.30's in hopes of getting a little better mileage out of it. We always tow a 12' box trailer with all of our tools. Do you think this will help some... we drive about 55,000 - 75,000 miles a year. Does anyone have any that they have sitting around? PM me if you do.
Well...mine go in Friday. I can let you know. Although it may be tough for me to drive 55K miles a year.
I think it'll help if you find your truck downshifts a lot to help pull the weight. If it stays in OD for all those highway miles it may not help but I don't suspect it'll hurt. Especially in town.
I should loose MPG's, I thought that I would gain.

With higher gearing you should be better off the line and you may gain MPG in the stop and go of city driving as it should not lug as much. As for the highway you may loose at higher speeds.
I changed mine out as I mentioned and I went up 1 MPG in mixed 65% city-35% hwy driving.
AT 65 I can get 14-15 on the flats... above 65 I get 11-12 and above 75 well lets not talk about that

You may gain or stay the same.
You see, less "go" pedal to maintain speed means less fuel being injested. Sure you'll spin the engine about 200RPM faster but I've found throttle position has much more impact on MPG than RPM.
It's not all about RPM.
With 295 and 4.30's you should be able to maintain OD in headwinds and slight inclines where with the 3.73's you downshift. That in and of itself will save you gas.
it's gonna cost you to regear...as you know...you may even want to look into a Gear vendors Over/Under unit. I've always wanted one. $2895.00 is a lot of dough and I don't think I'll ever see a return on investment. However telling people I have an 8-speed Excursion is priceless.
