I have a '78 F150 2WD, and it's a secondary vehicle that I don't really drive, but there has been a problem that's been bugging me for close to a year, and I never really got around to checking it completely out. Anyway, the last few times I have started the truck, it started making a wierd noise when I turn the key in the key switch, it started up every time, but all of sudden the truck would not start through the key switch, but if you play around under the hood, you can get itt to start, I think off of the voltage regulator, that trick with the two screwdrivers, grounding something I guess, I didn't get it to start, but my dad did. Anyway, could it be a wire or something connected to the key switch that's worn-out or burnt-out, I had similar problems with my '69 mustang w/302 V-8, only in my stang, the key wouldn't do anything, than finally after turning it a few times, something would connect, and it'd crank over, but on this F150, it won't ever crank over through the key switch, anyway, it's got a 460 V-8 with the C-6 tranny, if that matters, thank you in advance for any and all help provided.
anyway, I plan on selling the truck, I'd rather sell it running, rather than try to part it out, it's too nice of condition to part out, no one will buy it, if it doesn't run.
This is the NSS located on the side of the transmission
when the gear shift is placed in either Park or Neutral ,the switch allows power to flow to the S terminal of the solenoid when the key is turned to start position.
ok, i saved the picture you just posted,so I'll refer to it when I get a chance, I'll see if I can't get the truck figured out. Thank you again, million
