Factory Tech Valvebody?

For those of you running the FTVB did you get the standard one Greg sends out for the V10? I was going to order one this week but after reading, I get the feeling maybe the shifts are a bit too firm. I spoke with Greg and he said he could take a little out of the 1,2 shifts, those would be the hardest. But at the same time he said to try the standard one if I dont like it he would send another with the 1,2 softer. Dont really want to get into draining the thing twice, what do you think.?

I am installing "standard" valve body this weekend in my '99 f250 v10.

I'll let you know what I think.

I got the FT (Std.) accumulator installed on my 04' last friday. I was running a tuner to firm up the shifts. (SCT 15% firmness increase) I set the firmness back to stock prior to having the accumulator put in. With the new piece from factory tech it does shift super firm especially at WOT. It shifts firmer than my SCT tuner set at a maximum firmness setting of 25%. I honestly like it but I can easily see how it would be too firm for some people, wives especially.

If he can take some firmness out to suit you, go for it. Can't wait to pull with my truck to really test it out.

Thanks, I just dont want that neck jaring slam into gear feeling. I want it nice and crip, "comfortable" you know its there but no whiplash.

WOT@5200rpm you get a minor neck snap with the regular FT accumulator. If he tones it down a notch it should suit you.

I had a couple questions about using the accumulator with other tuner functions (Not firmness) and Gregg responded quickly and answered my questions. Seems like a good guy to deal with.

It's never really neck snapping. Sometimes it shifts a little harder at low rpms depending on the amount of throttle you are giving it, but it is never violent. At full thottle up in the rpms it can be pretty crisp. I call it fast rather than hard. I'd actually like mine to be just a little firmer.

I installed my Factory Tech valve body this weekend and changed ALL the oil, filter and drained the torque converter. (wow that is a lot of oil)
I really like the way it shifts. I do not think it is harsh, more like crisp and positive. It is firmer than stock.
I have a bone stock 1999 v10 4wd with 99k miles and I added the kit to help make the trans last longer.

My guess is that he told you not to use a tuner to adjust line pressures, the same thing he told me when I spoke with him when I got the Monster Box. As he said, the new valve body does all the adjustments to shifting that you need.

I already knew to leave the firmness stock. My ??? was regarding changing the shift points with the tuner. I run +3 or +4 mph on the shift points in 1st thru 3rd. Gregg said changing the shift points was fine with the FT accumulator. The shift firmness is plenty firm with the FT unit, I don't see a need to make it any firmer.
