Greg, This idiot gauge issue was discovered on Mustangs a whild ago. Somebody discovered a way to adapt the idiot guage to a real gauge and posted the information on [link:www.corral.net|the Corral's web site]. IIRC, it was a fairly simple fix.
I'll try to find the info and give a direct link here.
The idiot guage to analog conversion is referneced in reply 8 above.
Will, of more recent adds, is having problems with all his guages, but is most concerned at this point with an oil guage that apparently goes all over the place based on varying conditions.
Well I couldn't find an exact citation but this is what I remember; the idiot guage will work as a gauge if it has the right sender attached to it. So you'll need to switch to a gauge type sender. I think a resistor is required in parallel to the gauge but we'd need to know what the risistance range of the sender is to figure that out.
I just ordered a manual gauge from my local performance shop. I should have it installed this weekend. I have never done one but it looks like it would be easier if I remove the PS pump and the oil filter.

I put one on mine a while back takes about 10 minutes. But I did it with the oil change so it was a little easier i have to take the ps pump off every time i change the oil because with my big tube headers there is no way to get the oil filter out.
