I am buying a '02 7.3 F250 this week and need to get up to speed a quick as possible since this is my first diesel.
Where should I start reading first? Got any links?
What are some of the common problems I should watch out for. (So far I know about the Cam switch.)
With a stock engine and chip what sort of MPG might I expect?
What sort of mods might I do to improve MPG?
I'm not looking for a supercharged truck right now. Instead, I am hoping to squeeze out a few extra miles per gallon since I drive approx. 150 miles a day without hauling too much weight other than tools and occasional building materials.
Any guidance to help me get boned up on diesels would be appreciated.
Congrats on your purchase. I have learned a lot just from reading posts on this forum. Also on the top of the page ther is an article\specs, go there and enjoy many hours of happy reading. You have found the best place in the world for advice\help and friends!
Welcome to FTE. The easiest way to get better MPG's from these trucks is just old fashioned common sense. Keep you're tires properly inflated, change the filters when recommended, and go easy on the skinny pedal. Keeping the rpm's below 2000 rpm's (even during acceleration) will help increase mileage but some folks don't like to do that.
Hang around and read up on what's going on around here and you'll learn a lot.
