Here it is:
86 Ford Bronco with 302 EFI...problem: It idles rough (idles up and down) on start up. When I stop at a stop sign, it stalls. However, I seem to be getting plenty of fuel as I go down the road, no problem with power (or so I have noticed). When I go to shift, it seems to bog into the next gear (like it wants to stall in between gears if I don't shift fast enough. There is also a RICH smell to the exhaust.

The engine is a rebuild. Cap, Rotor, and spark plug wires are new from the time a put the engine in (Feb 2002). I have not put a new O2 sensor in yet. The whole ordeal happened after was pulling a heavy load on a windy day...might help with the diagnosis.

How would the coolant temp sensor play a part? Just curious, because the truck actually over heated a couple of days after. Put in a new thermostat, but have not taken it on a long drive yet.

The o2 sensor tells the computer how to set the fuel mixture but the computer does not use the info until the coolant temp sensor says the engine is warm. So if the coolant temp says the engine is cold it is going to run on preprogram info, usally on the rich side like a stuck choke on a carb engine. Might check Throttle position sensor also. It could be telling the computer your at 1/2 throttle at idle. I would also check your cat. Also dont forget to check for a vaccumn leak that will make them run rich

Any codes? Check engine light?

I appreciate the suggestions so far. Here is another thing....the truck was actually running a little louder than normal...CAT maybe? How can you tell if it has gone bad?The noise level went back to normal after I started driving around a little. I have not had it analyzed yet. Not sure if the check engine light is even working. Do they have a check engine light for the check engine light....a little humor there

If you turn the key to on not start all of the "Idiot" lights will come on. If you dont see it you got a blown bulb. You might want to check the air tube that comes in on the engine side of the cat they are prone to rust out. Only way I know to check the cats is drop them.

Note to self:
1) check the idiot light bulb...replace
2) Drop the cat and check it out..while I'm under there check the air tube.
3) Get it analized...

Thanks for all your help gasman! I'll let you know what the problem was when I find it! Let me know if you have any more suggestions.
