What do these do?

There are two things involved with vacuum lines that I am not sure of there purpose and how to check if there good or not. There on the passanger side fender, here is a picture.

The black round thing is like a "reserve" tank to operate anything that is vacuum controlled (hvac servos) after the engine is shut off. Can't help you with the other thing, mine doesn't have it.

The other thing is a vacuum warning switch. Only diesels have this.

I would guess you could unplug the vacuum line from it with the truck running, and something should happen in the cab. I don't really know if it's a buzzer or a light. Let me know, I am curious myself.

I tried it, nothing happened.. Must be bad. Guess I need to buy a new one...

I also noticed on mine if I lose my alternator belt im screwed because thats what my vacuum plug is belted to, is that the way it needs to be?

That's the way it is on the belt thing. Before you buy a new vacuum switch, unplug it and jump the two wires going to it and see what happens(I am still assuming the keyswitch will have to be in run).
