I get in this mood to trade my 2000 F250 SD Crew 4x4 in before it craps out on me. At what point did Ford finally get that 6.0 where it wouldnt blow up every few thousand miles? I've seen some 04's out there but about half scared of the engine!
What do you guys think? Should I start looking at the Dodge? The cummings is about bullet proof, or so I hear.
I have 158K on the truck. New clutch LUK upgrade about 9 months ago. I havent done anything else to it except baby the hell out of it. Seems like a big loss in power over the past yr or so. I'm considering going with a 4" exhaust to help it breath but thats alot of money to gamble on nothing improving. I owe about 8K on it and can trade in for about 11-12K. I've done ranch hand bumpers all the way around, new rims and BFG KO's, Bed Cover.. Looks nice so who knows what I'll do with it.
Bro, don't get rid of it. If it's down on power with only 158K, it's something that can be fixed. That thing has many more miles in it. The newer 6.0's are nice and they ride good and have some nice creature comforts, but it's no 7.3 liter. Let's figure your problem out and get her running good again.
dodge trucks = poorly constructed shipping crate for good motor.
05 up for a decent 6.0, I wouldnt trust anything in the 03/04 range (except for the 03 7.3s)
Thats just plain old silly, I've got a very early 6.0 thats still on original head gaskets, egr cooler, turbo and still running an original injector. 200K km's and running strong. The way it is, if you got a good 03 6.0 it was really good from what I've seen. Also lots of the problematic ones were the techs who would just throw a new egr, or turbo in and say its fixed when they weren't even the real problems to begin with, that happened a lot. Now I don't know why some guys have eaten injectors so much, my truck has had 7 replaced but 5 before I owned it and I've had it 3 years now.

There might be a few good '03 6.0s but is it worth the gamble of spending 15-20K to find out if you picked a good one?

Not for me.
Get an oasis report, takes a lot of the guess work out of the game when you know the warranty history of the truck. I never got the oasis until just recently but I was very pleased when I got it.
I have a buddy who has an '03 6.0 and it seems to be pretty strong running. He just turned 100,000 miles this passed week. He did have one little tiny problem back in November. A sensor went bad on it that made the engine rev up to 2000 rpm when he was sitting at a stoplight and ended up crushing the car in front of him and pushing it into the car in front of it. Messed the front of his truck up pretty good too. But other than that it's been good.

Yeah, I had that same problem but all I got out of it was a stunting ticket!! But I was able to get out of the ticket because of the paper work I had showing my motor was surging
