The kid at the tire place broke 2 of 3 bolts on each of my front wheel centre caps on my '80 F100. Before I decide to get them drilled out and re-threaded at a wheel shop has anyone got a good tip to remove these. Would heat from a butane torch help or are the aluminum bolts going to melt? Thanks in advance for your opinions.
I am not sure what you are talking about. I am familiar with the lug nuts and studs that hold the wheel on, and if they are broke off you just drive them out and replace them. If you have some sort of special wheel with a hub cap, I am not familiar with that.
The three bolt cap for the styled steel wheels, I have them on my 86 4x4. You may be able to drill into it and use an easy out, just make sure it's straight. You can lightly heat them, but if the screws are alluminum, they will expand at twice the rate of steel. so go slowly. also if you dont want to torch it, still do the easy out but soak in PB blaster or Kroil for several hours first. that may help.
OK, I think I'll try a heat gun on the nut then cool them with ice then soak them with penetrating oil. After that I'll try drilling and using the easy out. If I get them out should I use anti-seize on the new bolts?
