There is no wiring behind the cover. The cylinder moves a rod that's connected to the actual switch at the bottom of the steering column near the firewall.

What seems to be the problem with the truck?

The wiring plug goes into a slide switch mounted close to the middle of the stering column.

Can you describe the problem with your father's truck?

There's a plastic cover underneath the spot where the column goes into the dash. There are two screws that hold that cover on from underneath. Remove those two screws and take off the cover. Once the cover is off you'll find an aluminum bracket that holds the column to the dash. If you look at it closely you'll find there's just two bolts that hold the lower part of that bracket which in turn sandwiches the columnn between the lower and upper bracket halves. Remove those two bolts. Once you do the column will drop down and you'll have full access to the ignition switch and wiring.

yes thanx we figured that out by accident... we got a hot wire straight from the battery and all the wires would work a different part of the turn signal system or the horn... lol but yeah the ignition cylender jamed or something and we could not get it to start verry well... but we found that rod and now we start it that way... thanx for the help though.... yeah i use to have an 88 bronco 2 when i was 15 and a coulple years ago i had an 82 ranger...absolute base model.. 4 cyl 5speed with a blue vinal interior... and at the same time my dad had a fully loaded 84 ranger with two tone paint, v6, 4wd, auto, overhead console.. everything.. it was nice.. but now he has an 86 4x2 straight 6, 4speed... its prety nice.. it has tilt and cruise and stuff... but its too big for me.. i miss my bronco2... it was an xlt black an silver/w red int... it was a 5spd.. it was really nice but the throw out bearing went out and we just didnt want to have to fix it so we sold it after it sat in our yard for 3 years...

but yeah this is a great forum if we ever have any more questions with his truck or anyother we may get(my dad loves ford trucks and goes through them like newspaper) ill deff check back here first... again thanx for the help!!
