I took my 1997 ext cab 4X4 truck to my garage because it seemed like it was missing and the "check engine light" was on. My mechanic said it was the cheap plugs that the last guy put in, plane motor craft. He replaced them with triple titanium. Now my check engine light is back on and it is still missing. Some people say the kind of plugs make know difference but the life exspectancey. Could this be my main computer brd or a wire or something. I have to take it back next week. Thks Ken
Try having the computer scanned to see what codes the computer is kicking out, if you don't have a code scanner just go to autozone and ask them to scan it and they will with out a problem. The scanner needs to be an OBD II scanner.
When your truck comes from the factory it has 2 diferent plugs in it left bank right bank These plugs fire twice not once as normal once on the compression-power stroke and the second time for the EXHAUST stroke..this 2nd firing is to burn more emmissions so the roughness (which shldnt be excessive) is NORMAL...when it comes time to change plugs the 2 diferent kinds are replaced by 1 common MOTORCRAFT PLUG put in a good platinum plug by MOTORCRAFT (preferrable) or BOSCH at 60k miles dont forget your wires are taking 2 firings for 1 also get a GOOD set of wires and you wont be on the side of the road but makin' dust
