question about the frame brace

is the frame brace on a 65 F100SWB the same width as a 79 F100? the reason for the question is my truck is an automatic and to remove the trans you must remove the brace at the radius arms to get it out. i have a 79 donor and it looks to have deeper drop than the 65 brace. will it swap out without a lot of modification?
thanks in advance for the help on this.

65, If you have an auto tranny in your 65 the cross member should be bolted in. If it is riveted in the auto has been transplanted.

The rivets can be cut and replaced with bolts to allow the tranny to be dropped down.

I am not sure on the comparison widths.

Welcome to (FTE)!

The frame width should be the same, from back of the cab to the front bumper 65/ 79. Now the rear of the frame vary in width, on some of the
years / models. You may want to compare the 65 radius arm brackect
crossmember to see if there the same!

The 65-72 are the same width front to back.

In 65 ford missed the uhh we rivited the damn thing in and now cant pull transmissions to service from the bottom.... Almost all 66s have bolts. most 65s dont...

If it is a factory 66 auto it will also have the small floor plate on the trans hump to adjust the intermediate band. most 65 dont...LOL...

Dave, I believe the 66 3 spds were all riveted in. Could be wrong, but might be right too.

The 3 spd could be removed with the cross member in. The auto bell will not pass through.

The F100 frames changed in 1973, they are wider than the frames used in prior years.

This is the major reason ppl can't use the 9" rear axle from 1973 and later in their 1948/56's to replace the Spicer 44's.

The 9" rear axle from 1957 thru 1972 is a virtual bolt in on 1948/56's.

1973 and later 9" rear axles are wider.
