Seat Swaps

What other F Series seats, if any, will bolt into 73-79 with ease? I really like the later model (say around 87, I think) split bench type.

any seat up to 96 will bolt in. you just have to unbolt the sliders from the new seat and bolt on the old 70's sliders. takes minutes to do.

has anybody ACTUALLY verified this with the SPLIT bench type? I kept reading "up to a 96 will bolt in" but I just don't see how the 2 sliders/tracks off our standard benches support these split benches.

I am currently putting a 60/40 split bench out of a 99 in my 74 crew cab and it's been entertaining to say the least. I'm on my 3rd bracket design...

The mounting points for the new seat are much wider than where the 74 sliders sit. Add that to the fact that the split bench is just that - split, and you have to make something to tie the seats together before even mounting them on the stock sliders. Plus the holes on the bottom of the new seat are all over the place in random fashion (so it seems), and it even makes tying the 2 portions of the 60/40 together difficult.

I ended up using 2 pieces of 3/4" x 1 1/2" rectangular steel tubing bolted to the bottom of the seat, and then also the stock sliders. Not done yet, so I don't know if it will even work...

All this is using a 60/40 split bench out of a 99 F-150, so the 96 and earlier MIGHT be easier, but if it's a SPLIT bench then I kinda doubt it...

You are right. The actual statement should read all full bench seats will fit by changing the tracks. I just installed a 40/20/40 seat from a 1994 into a 1978 and that was interesting also. I used the existing 78 brackets, but had to weld them to the 94 seat "sub" frame.

To many to list.

I just put a bench seat from a 87 F250 in my 74 F100. It took all of 15 mins. The thing that I thought was kind of nice is the dust cover off the back of my '74 seat fit the back of the 87 seat. I only had to modify 2 holes if I remember correctly. Wish I would have put this seat in 2 months ago when I got the truck. It would have saved 2 pairs of jeans.
