My 76 Ranger XLT 4x4 F250 Highboy needs the windshield changed
I have one in a f150 parts truck and I am waiting for the weather to warm up a bit
I figure that it will crack a lot easier in cold weather?
anyways my question is, the 76 has a wide chrome strip around the windshield, and the 150 just has that center piece that you pull from the rubber
Does that chrome piece from the 76 just pull from the rubber gasket like the other one??
Yes, the wide strip from the '76 just locks into grooves in the weatherstrip - different weatherstrip than the narrow chrome uses. Also, it would help to use a heat gun or blow dryer to warm up the weatherstrip while removing the wide strips so not to bend/kink them.
Which ever way you decide to go (with the wide chrome or narrow chrome strip) make sure you don't damage the wide chrome and save it and also save those small chrome corners that go with the narrow chrome strip. Those little things are kind of expensive to replace. The narrow chrome strip I would replace just because a new one is more shiny and looks better. I assume though, you are going to use the wide chrome. And just as NOCO77 said, make sure you get the right weather stripping.
Thanks guys, that's exactly what I needed to know,
great tip on warming up the gasket too! I never would have thought about that?
I am going to hold off as long as I can until the weather warms up a bit,
the cracks in it now are not that bad, they do not obstruct the view at all
