289 questions

I am looking to turbocharging a 289. Mainly for it's stroke. How many rpms can the bottom end of a 289 take. Lets assume it has all ARP fasteners and a windage screen. The rods will be stock but reconditiond and shot peened. How much power can the bottom end I presented above handle. Thanks in advance.

I've seen prepped 289's go to 7000rpm without problems, but I'd be conservative and keep a 6500 rpm max. The 2-bolt main Ford smallblock lowerend with a girdle and main studs has been known to handle 500hp. You can also machine the crank for 2.10" rod journals, narrow a set of Chevy 400 rods and use a set of Keith Black #355 pistons (for a 327 Ford stroker) and gain 3/8" rod bolts and a 1.93:1 rod to stroke ratio.
