WHY is Ford waiting until late July to produce their newly designed best selling vehicle, F-150? Spring is here and you'd think that would be all the incentives they need to have these trucks produced for the summer season when more vehicles are sold. I never understood this fall vehicle launch mind set.

maybe its not ready for production yet....just because they were able to get a few non running ones together for the auto shows doesn't mean they have the build process down yet...or all the supplier parts together....what would be worse than waiting till spring would be to start building now...and run out of parts in april...thus having no new trucks at all hitting the lots...08 or 09....

It's not like they just flip a switch at the factory and the 2009's start poppiing out of the mold instead of 2008's. Did it occur to folks that maybe the reason they haven't finalized the horsepower specs is because they are TESTING and CERTIFYING engines; they have to crash some trucks to meet crash standards, line up suppliers for every last part on the truck down to the radio ***** and emblems, retool all their stamping and welding gear to make the new parts in volume, etc.

The quicker they push it out the door, the more first-year problems they may have, and that will not make for happy customers....hell, Microsoft blows every one of its schedules with new Windows versions and they still have those "new features" aka bugs....

Agree to everyhting said here but they've had 5+ years to prepare for this new launch. My point here is the quicker you get these units out to the public the faster you produce new revenues. And that's exactly what Ford needs now. People love modern technology. It makes life easier and more comfortable.

....and they probably pick up another 300 lbs to make mileage worse...

What TRUCK-specific features on the 2009 F150 will make any difference compared to a 2008 model? Electronic gadgetry ain't gonna make the vehicle work harder. Only diff I see is a 6-speed automatic trans, which may be trouble-prone for the first year or two.

well theres a double edged sword here.....the tooling used to produce the current models is already paid for...thus improving profit margins on the 2008 trucks...so actually ford would like selling a whole lot of these...they're cheaper to make...

The sooner they start building the 2009's, the sooner they'll have to start building the 2014's...

Anyone rememer what happened when the XBOX's came out, and the PS2's, PS3's, XBOX 360, they always wind up pushing back the launch date, if something is rare it makes it more valuable, and the longer people wait, the more anticipation there is, and the more hype there is for it. Just like waiting for xmas. I ordered a set of mac wrenches 2 weeks ago, if I would have got them in 2 days i would have been pretty excited, but it wound up taking a week and a half for them to get here, every day I would check the mail box, and get more and more excited the longer I had to wait.

I dont think Ford is making a mistake at all. I say take your time, get it right the first time.
