2.5 MPG increase

Just got back from my first long range trip with my reconfigured SCT power tune by 5 Star Tuning. I am happy to report that I have gained 2.5 MPG over the original factory stock tune. The truck has consistently gotten 14 MPG at highway speeds (cruise on 110 KM/HR) since I owned it. It now gets 16.5 MPG consistently. Combined city and highway has gone from 12 MPG to 14 MPG. Am I happy? U-Bet! My gratitude to Mike @ 5 Star Tuning grows every time I drive the truck.

Kurt,

What year v10? Any other modifications or changes done at the time of the tuner install?
change plugs?
Air filter?
Fuel filter?
What I am gettng at, is, all this change from the tuner or a combination of a few changes?
That is great milage anyway you slice it !!
I think you are the first person I have read that gets that kind of milage consistantly.
SHARE THE KNOWLEDGE!
George

That fuel mileage increase is with no other changes to the truck. The tune that I am using is the 93 Oct tune with 91 Oct gas. The majority of the trip was also mountain terrain. At least 700 KM counting both ways was right down through the middle of the Rockies. I also tried the 87 Oct economy tune with 87 Oct gas and found that it did 1 MPG less (15.3 MPG) with a lot less power than the 93 tune. The truck was back shifting a lot more on the hills with the 87 tune. I guess the extra shifting would account for the less fuel economy with the 87 tune. The truck is an 2006 short box crew 4X4.

Are those hand calcs or off the computer?

What are the HP and Torque numbers supposed to be with the 93 tune?

Let's not forget that the Gallon is bigger in Canada. Still, a good improvement.

Yes. Are these figures in US Gallons, or Imperial?

Yes those are imperial gallons. The calculations were done by hand using the trip meter and gas reciepts. Not sure on gears but I am suspecting that they are 3.73's. Tach is pegged at 2000 RPM with the cruise on 110 km. The 93 Oct tune gives an extra 31 rear wheel HP. I should be very close to 400 Hp at the flywheel with the 93 tune. Not sure what the torq figures are for any of the tunes. Maybe Mike will chime in on that.

Can't wait for Mike Troyer to finish my custom tunes, nothing wrong with 400 hp, and better mileage as a bonus.

Thumbs up

Never heard of Mike Troyer Performance but I sure have nothing but praise for Mike @ 5 Star Tuning who set up my truck. Your dead nuts right, about getting more performance along with better gas mileage at the same time. Makes me want to fornicate something LOL.

I've had an Troyer/SCT tuner sitting in the box it came in for like 15 months Never got around to doing some of the routine maintenance stuff that I thought should be done before loading the tunes. Maybe one day I'll get around to it.

Fordtruckster is posting similar mileage gains just by using 93 octane in his stock V10.

How much of your mileage gain do you attribute to the custom tune and how much to using the 91 octane gas alone?
