I currently have an '89 F-250 with a 460, and it's got the factory manifolds, one dual-in, single-out cat, and that's it. There's a turndown on the back of the cat, but it's not very long. Came that way when I bought it.

It sounds ... decent, I suppose. It's not too super loud when idling, and isn't ungodly loud when I drive unless I put my foot into it. It is kind of raspy, though, but that could be the A.I.R. tubes leaking on the top of the cat. I will say, however, when I downshift to slow the truck (especially on hills) it likes to pop really loud through the exhaust, and sounds like someone popping off a few rounds from a shotgun. Sounds cool, but isn't when you drive at night... People tend to get mad.

I recommend if you want to make your truck sound good, get a cat-back system for it. You'll be happy with the way it sounds, I think. Good tone, not too super loud, and your neighbors won't want to shoot you.

Good luck with whatever you decide, though.
