i've finally decided that my campell hausfeld pos is going bye bye. 275 ft lbs. is worthless. i have yet to actually break loose a single nut with it. i'm interested in three different models, i'd like opinions of each. also would the tourqe be sufficent for 90% of the really tough bolts? the ones i'm looking at ar the ingersoll rand 2135TiMAX, 2132G, and 232TGSL. the 2135timax is rated at 780ft lbs, but busts the bank at about 280 bucks. the 2132g has only 600ft lbs which i'm concerned about, but is most affordable at about 180 bucks. the 232tgsl is rated at 625 ft lbs and is priced at about 240 bucks. id have to save for like 3 weeks to get either of the 2135 or 232. whats everyones opinions? do i really need 780 ft lbs or is 600 enough? i'm just worried that if i dont get the most powerfull impact gun i'll never use it, like my campell hausfeld one. its not even worth firing up the compressor to use. any help would be great!!
600 ft/lbs of torque should be plenty for your average job on a car or light truck. I/R makes the best tool hands down. I have used my 231 I/R for 25 years now and I make my living turning wrenches. It has never let me down. I did recently upgrade to a 2132G and like it.
I got 2 IRs, One the old Titanium and the other a pre and don't ask model #, and it really doesn't matter which one you get as long as you feed and water them correctly. I abused them as a truck mechanic for years and now when I do power plant work. Either one has busted head bolts off of Jenbacher landfill engines at 480 ft-lbs of torque with all the additional nummies from being run at a garbage dump with no problems. Drain the water out of your tank weekly if you use it frequently , monthley otherwise. I put a couple of drops of oil in my tools every use right now as I don't have a garage where I can hard pipe and put in oilers. I've used Marvel, IR, 3in1, any good quality light oil works. I've used Kroil and WD40 when they get sticky and clear them out then put a good shot of oil in it to relube. Get the best you can afford.
basically the only thing i would use an impact gun for is working on my truck. very rarely i might use it to drive some lag screwss in, but my old one works good for lags. the problem i have with my CH gun is that i cant use it on lug nuts, or anything that gets real rusty and crusty. like for example i was pulling tires off of an axle i was selling and the impact did nothing i tried for 20 minutes with not a budge. i grabbed a 1/2" drive ratchet and broke them all loose and then used the impact to finish the job, which it barely did btw... so y'all think 600ft lbs is enough? i cant really afford the timax, but i'm just wondering if it would be worth saving up for. i dont want to spend $150+ and then find out that i should have waited and got the better gun. boy i hate spending *my* money...
I find it strange that the 2135TiMAX has the 780 lb/ft, and my 2135Ti has 600, yet there was nothing about the 1000 lb/ft of NUT BUSING TORQUE. I tell ya, the gun is unstoppable. No, there is nothing on a pickup you'll need more than 600 lb/ft for, and basically, what you're telling me is all you need is an IR 231. Should be more than enough for ya. If you're going for the cool factor, go for the 2135.
IMHO, 600'#'s is way enough.
I have posted before that I have the Thunder gun at the shop, but have an Sears 875 at home and don't see a need for more.
Picked that up on sale for under a hundred OTD.

the 2135timax has 1100 ft lbs of nut busting tourqe. i think im going to go with the 2132G as it seems like the most powerfull gun under 200 bucks.
I have a IR 2135Ti at work, and it is great. Also have a CP (forget the #) which is very strong, but it's on the heavy side. I have a MAC impact at home and it does a decent job. The 2135 is the best impact I ever used.
i just snatched one off ebay for a hair under 100 bucks shipped to my door. its the 2132G. when i finally get it in and tested i'll report back.
I have the same. Brand new less than $100 shipped to my door. It was missing the box (so what?) but everything else was there. It has worked well for rotating the tires on the Jeep, which is probably all I can do with the puny compressor I'm stuck with right now. I've got to do some work on my 20+ year old Cub Cadet tractor so I'm sure it'll get some more use then.
I've ditched all my other air tools and replaced everything with IR stuff. With the little stubby 3/8" drive my wife bought me for Christmas I've been using air tools for almost everything I can get a socket on now.

At first, using an impact for anything other than wheels feels awkward and clumsy doesn't it? But after you get the feel of air tools, your ratchets will almost rust in the drawer.
I've noticed this after wrenching without air for a while. It takes a bit to get the "feel" back, and I've worn out a few air tools over the years.
+1 on the IR products.
