CAn cams be taken out and installed without tearing apart an engine?
Also If you can take out the existing cam and replace it a more agressive cam, do you need to worry about replacing pistons, heads or anything?
I want to thank all that respond to questions i have. I am a Fairly new car guy, and enjoying have some where to look for answer.
Thanks Jamison
No. The whole front of the engine has to come off. The intake manifold has to come off. You have to take the radiator out, and still you may not have enough room sometimes to get it out. Really aggressive cams need new valve springs, and piston to valve clearance checking. Thecam manufacturer can give guidance on this.
It makes it a whole lot easier to just pull the motor out and do it then. It also gives you the chance to freshen up your heads with new springs, which you'll need if you want an 'aggressive' cam. I think stock springs are rated to .5" lift or something, but if you've got a number of miles on the motor already it might not be a bad idea to go through the heads anyway.
So, what's an 'aggressive' cam?

Remember that an aggressive cam such as this will be wasteful on your mostly stock motor, and will in fact destroy your truck's driveability. A CompCam may be more suited for daily driving and low-end torque.
