Knock sensor... This trouble code keeps coming back. V10 C Class E450... Should I replace the knock sensor. Doesnt seem to be pinging that I've noticed. I wasnt sure if the light came on because a knock was detected or because the system is malfunctioning. I also had p0401 EGR Flow insufficient, and replaced the DPFE sensor, so far so good with that...
I think the way the PCM deals with the knock sensor is it advances the timing to the point where it SHOULD ping, and if the PCM never hears it through the knock sensor, it logs a code for the knock sensor.
Thanks for the reply. Yes it is a 99. I am running 87 octane gas. I have yet to hear it ping but the MIL won't go away. When I clear it, and drive, it is only a matter of minutes before it is a pending code and within 5 miles the light is back on... I ordered a new knock sensor from Ford but I just wanted to see if anyone else had this problem.
Yeah i searched the forums for the p0326 and got nothing for v10... I will let you know how it works out. I'm still waiting on my dealer to get the part in. Funny thing is the sensor was cheaper from my dealership than the local parts house.
OK I'm dumb... I was looking at for the location of the knock sensor according to my trusty haynes repair manual. It shows it under the intake about the center of the engine, drivers side. I found something there it looks sort of like a temp sensor.. I went to pick up my knock sensor and it looks nothing like what I see in the haynes book or on my motor. The new part looked like a 1/4" thick black plastic doughnut with a hole in the middle for a bolt and a pigtail with plug coming off of it. About the diameter of a quarter. I cannot locate anything that looks like this on my motor. Could you please tell me what the knock sensor looks like and where it is located on the engine... Oh and I also discovered my engine is a remanufactured from ford 2004. if that matters.
the new sensor you got is what the knock sensor looks like and they are the same part number from 99-07 so the reman. motor should not be a problem.from the front of the motor if you look down in the engine galley, way down below the intake you should see the sensor bolted to the block.it's best seen if you look in towards the pass. side. if you can't find it let me know I can snap a pic for you.
I will check it out tomorrow... Thaks for the info. Maybe go ahead and post the pic in case any one else needs to see it. Heres what I was looking at... I know the knock sensor as your saying is the one in the center of the valley but what is the sensor just to the right and forward(also pictured)
Here is what confused me..
The sensor to the right of KS looks like the top design pictured here.. Kinda like a temp sensor looks...
Thanks
Echo
sensor to front right is cylinderhead temp sensor, it is a fail safe sensor that shuts off 5 cylinders injectors to prevent over heating, at 330 deg it shuts all injectors off.
