Question Back up sensors

Is there a mod anyone has done to add back up sensors to a regular chrome bumper? Is there a harness to plug them into without the factory option. Can a lariat bumper be added and modded? Or is there any aftermarket products worth a #$%@. Thanks Fellas for any input

I have a lariet and the back-up sensors worked twice in the last 4 months. my bumper has a little twist to it so I think thats why.

If you look by your spare tire on the left side, that is where mine plug into the harness. I know they are controlled through the PCM, so I don't know if they are the same.
I think the aftermart camera's are the better whey to go. Someone else should chime in that has more iinfo

My uncle has one (back up cam) from wally world actually, on his EX. Its wireless, and the camera actually hooks into your reverse brake wires, (on with reverse, but you could wire it otherwise) It came with a screen that goes on top of the visor, like a mirror. Its more for watching your hitch, and I havent actually seen it in operation, but he liked his so much his son got one too. But I have virtually no experience with it. IIRC it wasnt even that much, and uses your plate bolts to mount.

Ya i could have found that, thank you for stating the obvious. I asked the question in this forum because most of us on this particular forum feel the same way about our trucks and i trust their opinion. I was asking if they specifically had any experience with this mod or addition. I have ample experience with using the search tool. The next time you feel like saving us all and stating the obvious please remember your not here to save us from ourselves.

I'm with you Benny. I ask questions here because I want to know what this specific group of posters feels about the particular subject. I have been in the other forums and the group isn't nearly as knowledgeable or willing to help as this one. For example(after using the search feature in the forum and coming up with less than stellar results) I asked in the Expedition forum if anyone knew where to get a re manufactured transmission for my wife's Eddie Bauer Expy and the response I got was take it to the dealership....

Geee ya think?

This won't be any help on finding the parts you need, but I have the backup sensors on my truck, and I think that it would be well worth your time to put them on if you can find a worth while product. It would definately be hard to back into something with those things beeping like they do.

Oh by the way did you do a search on it?

Sorry I couldn't resist.

Here is a thread that may be some help. There are a couple of links in it.

Benny, did not mean to offend you. I had a similar question and I just did a search and I found this post. Now, afterwards I did not have any questions because the post answered what I needed to know. I know a lot of people just throw the question out there without first doing the search; it's easier and it generates replies which are fun to engage in. I guess I treat the forum a little more business like; just give me the answer I need/want and I'm done with it. For some this is more of a social place to shoot the crap and I tend to forget there are others out there who treat this place differently and there is absolutely nothing wrong with that. This is a fun place and should remain so.

I have the reverse sensors and and I had to replace one sensor last year.

I stilled backed into a light pole concrete base becuase I was backing in on an angle way too fast.

I installed a wired back up camera that cost $99 from an online security firm.

I love the camera.

I bought the camera because my wife and daughter in law refused to drive the truck because of size and no visibility to the rear.

I am out of town but Friday I will find the link.

Too bad you're clear across the world- my truck has a back-up sensor bumper and I'd be willing to trade for a regular one in good shape (I have no need or desire for those things).

I have ridden in trucks with the backup sensors and to me they don't seem that accurate and just get plain annoying. An aftermarket wireless camera would be a better way to go because you can actually see and not have to listen to the bomb counting down. Jeff I didn't know your truck had them I thought they was from the 02+.

Yeah i've got them and they work really well. I've been in some cars at the shop where something has to be right up on the sensor for it to start beeping but the ones on my truck are pretty sensitive and they pick up from a good range.
