Thanks for the compliments, guys. Still an on going project (aren't they all?). As far as HP and Torque I've never had it on a dyno.
It's a '57 312 block bored to 318 cu ", Clay Smith cam, Dove roller rockers (1.6:1 ratio) modified "G" heads, pertronix triggering a MSD 6A box (hidden under glove box). Trans is a '75 C-4 with all the good stuff ("C" code servo, kevlar bands, etc) and a slightly loose converter.
So yes it runs reasonable well.
And it stops... as you can see in photo it has power disc brakes on front, Granada drums on rear.
Good to hear from you. Why you always call me "Blockhead". ha,ha,ha. It's Y-Blockhead
About the other site, all I can say is the people that run the show and myself had a difference of opinion over the definition of a Forum and leave it at that.
And of course I don't "visit" that site anymore...
Y-Blockhead: (I stand corrected!)
Sorry to hear someone teed you off on the other site. I always enjoyed your input and really dug the pics you were posting. Also, I find the car site a little more relative to my personal needs rather than this truck site.
Come on back...some of us miss you!
Brodie
"Blockhead" is dead on that site. One of my last quotes left there is this thread http://www.y-blocksforever.com/forum...0058-3-1.aspx] Sorry, you have to read between the lines because the rest of my comments were deleted. Basically all I stated was I didn't care for LFM or Tom Shaw for bad mouthing Y-Blocks in print. Even Jerry Christinson (SR Blackbird T-Bird) wrote to the letters section the next month.
I guess my Opiniun and my "reminder of what a forum is (sharing opiniuns, etc.) flicked their switch
But I'm no angel either. Guess I said the wrong thing to the wrong person?? ha,ha. Thought Y-Block people had thicker skin...
Anyway this isn't the place for this. Enjoy yourself my friend, I doubt I will be missed, plenty of other opinions and backsides (I think they said).
I'm doin a intake swap also and would like to add and take some knowledge here. My 56 f100 has a 56 y-block however it's NOT the original 272. the casting numbers say it's a 56 292 or 312(wish i knew which) my new 4V intake is a pre-57 because it has the small bolt footprint. So I'm guessing the last remaining unknown in this equation are the heads, Is it time to pull the casting numbers from them or is it safe to say they will be the 56 small port ones?
My first REAL motor expiences are with this newly purchased truck so I'm learning and feelin my way thru it.
I have some questions for y-blockhead about his 3x2.
why do you have 2 vacuum lines on the spacers?
What kind of rockers are on those heads?
What is that little steel line starting between center and front carb?
To answer your questions in order;
The larger vacuum line on the rear carb goes to the power brake booster, the one on the middle carb goes to the vacuum modulator on my C-4 transmission.
The rockers are 1.6:1 ratio Dove roller tipped aluminum rockers.
The small steel line between the front and center carbs supplies vacuum to the vacuum advance on the distributor. This line is actually in the wrong place for vacuum advance but the Strombergs are not ported. This line is restricted way down (along with modes in the distributor) to limit the amount of advance.
Also there is another vacuum line behind the manifold the cannot be seen for the PCV system.
I wanted to upgrade to a later '57 2v intake along with changing out the Holly 94. Possibly for a Autolite 2100 or Holly 2300. any suggestions? I have a 239Y-Block, after reading this last set of postings looks like I could have a seating issue installing a 57 or newer 2v intake?
Unfortunately you will have problems with port match up and sealing when using a latter manifold on the 239".
Y-Blockhead
Thanks I appreciate the clarification, I almost bought the set up carb an all, but wanted to make sure...Truelly i don't mind the Holly 94, after all Its simple and that's what's on my 53' Coupe Flatty...Cheers...thanks for saving me some $$
