I have a 05 F-150 and I just hit the 35,000 mark. Ford recommends a tranny flush at 30,000. I went to the dealer to see what this would run me and the tech told me around $150-$170. I also checked with Kennedy transmission and they wanted around $80-$90 for the same procedure. Do all shops use the same machine for this job? Why is Ford's price almost double? I need to get this done sooner than later, because I heard if you don't keep up the recomended maintenance on your vehicle and something goes wrong, it could void your warranty coverage. Is this true? I've also been told not to flush the tranny and to just get a tranny service(drop the pan, etc. etc.) Is one better than the other or is this just a personal preference thing? I'm a newbie on this board in search of some helpful advice. I welcome all opinions. Thanks
just droppin the pan and filter will only get about 25% of the fluid out of the tranny. so the new fluid that goes in just mixes w/ the old stuff and gets contaminanated almost as soon as it goes in... it is best to have it flushed
but make sure it a machine the uses the internal transmission pump to exchange the fluid and not one that pumps the fluid in w/ a pump in the transflush machine
I had the tranny service done at 30,000 and then got the flush at 65,000. The dealer uses a cleaner kit that they pump thru, if the Transmission place does the same, I would just go with them. My dealer charges $69 for a fuel filter change that takes about 10 minutes in my driveway and costs $12, so they do like to charge.
I had mine done last month and paid $90 from a local shop (not dealer). I personally had them flush it with only new transmission fluid because I have read that the chem. additives/cleaners can stir up gunk and cause more damage than good.
The machine they used to do it, used the tranny pump and just runs new fluid thru the tranny until its all fresh fluid. I had it done at 58k and it was long overdue. Should have done it sooner. It was very dirty.

Those machines work well, just make sure they don't bend the oil cooler line when they loosen or tightent it. Happened to my 2002...grrr It doesn't change the TC fluid though.
Was any ones trany slipping before they did this? I feel that my is slipping when pulling or heavy exeleration .
Yes, my truck was having what I believe to be called "torque converter shudder" while pulling or heavy exceleration (1st gear especially). I changed the fluid with Motorcraft Mercon V and the problem went away!!
