alright, the guy before me i guess siliconed it on, i would really rather not replace the whole unit, but i want to get the cap off, ive tried an exacto knife around the lip, no luck, its on there good, any ideas??
Have you considerd tapping it gently with a rubber mallet to loosen it? Yes, you might break it but, you can always replace it? Just a thought. Good luck..
If they did indeed use silicone, then you will most likely have to break the cap and remove it in parts as that stuff is extremely strong. I used to use it in cabinet making and once it glues two clean surfaces, it is almost impossible to break free. Once you do get it free, you can rub it and it will ball op and come off.
If you want to try to remove the cap whth the distributor in the engine, I would recommend using a large C-clamp. Put it over the cap and twist it down. It will crack the cap without doing any damage to the shaft. You may have to crack the cap in three or four places to then peal the peices off. Be careful if you use a hammer because you can damage the shaft if you hit it. Good luck.
Ditto George! Good idea! I hope I never have to force one off but, I guess this gives me a reason to have at least a 8" C-clamp vs using a rubber mallet.. LOL... Thanks again!!
i took a screwdriver, and made a hole off center on the cap, i then took a hammer and used the claw end to pry on the inside lip, with some elbow grease it popped off..the new problem is, i cant spin the distributor to fine tune my idle..whats up with that
