Last time I changed oil in my 99.5 7.3L I noticed drain plug would seep. I stopped at Car Quest to get new plug and washer and noticed new washer is plastic. Does anyone have experience with these? Car Quest said this was all you could get now. In the past everything I own had metal (brass) compression washer. Plastic seems cheap and I wonder about over tightening and ripping plastic. Any comments?
Yes it is hard to find anything else, but if you use the same formula for it as you do filter all will last awhile. Finger tight plus 1/4 turn and it will not leak unless you have a seat problem.
Ford changed my oil last time, the oil plug was leaking when I got home. When't back they changed the brass washer, still leaks alittle! Maybe the plastic washer seals better.. Someone will join in here soon to help you out, or should I say us out!!! Got to change my oil this Weekend......
Plastic is unacceptable IMO for this application.
The size you need is 14x20x1.5mm
I buy them by the 100 pack for work and change it every oil change on the customer's cars.
If you can't get the brass washer at a parts store you could always take you drain plug and go to a Home Depot and match it up to a brass washer. There's also a metal type washer that has a rubber center that seals to the pan that NAPA carries. I'm sure some of the other parts stores may also have it. Hope this helps. Good Luck!
Harbor Freight has a assortment of copper washer of different sizes for about $4 or 5, (when on sell) there are about 10 that will fit the drain plug and the rest you can use for whatever. Lee
I got the Fumto valve from Dieselsite so I Dont have to worry about it any more.
have not changed the oil since I put it on, but its clean and easy to get samples.
just my .02
I also have the Fumoto valve from Dieselsite. Put it on and you will never remove it again. I have had mine on my truck since mid 2003 and have nevre had a problem with it. I am looking into ordering one for all my other vehicles!

I ordered mine just last week. I mainly got it for that exact purpose. (samples for extended change intervals).
When I first got my truck, un-be-knownst to me, it had the plastic washer on the drain plug. It didn't leak but when I changed the oil I switched it to the copper one.
I've left the same washer on since i got the truck 2 1/2 years ago and no leaks (knock on wood). Try flipping the washer over if you cant find a new one.
You can buy copper oil drain plug washers in many sizes at places like Autozone, Pep Boys, Checkers, etc. They usually come several to a pack and are not expensive. I could not imagine using plastic!
Thanks everyone. Just got back from O'Reilly's. Found a 3 pack of 14mm brass washers for $2.19. I do not usually go to Car Quest but in another post here there was a link for a sales flyer from CQ for fleet discount on Wix filters so I was going to stock up on 6637 filters.I had called CQ and they told me they would have to check with their Wix Rep since I did not have a business account to see if they would honor fleet discount prices. I had called 2 times to check but they said the rep had not called back so I thought maybe if I stopped in with the flyer they would go ahead and get them for me since they said fleet pricing would be $10.90 per 6637. When I stopped in they still had not heard from rep but I thought I would get a drain plug. Again they told me a plastic washer was all you could get. It has been 2 days now and just called they still say they have not heard from rep. What a buy if they will sell for $10.90 a filter.
