oil pressure

[updated:LAST EDITED ON 05-Dec-02 AT 09:53 AM (EST)]I just rebuilt my 302 motor and have a problem. When you start the motor it will have some oil pressure then it drops till gradually none. I am using a melling high volume pump, when using the prime tool showed excellent pressure. Just wondering is the pump drive shaft too short or is there a plug in the motor that I don't know about that would stop the oil pressure from building. Any suggestions.

It sounds like something is wrong with the pump drive shaft like the length. If you have good pressure with the dummy shaft, then the engine is ok.
