Has anyone installed a 351 Cleveland crank into a 351W block? If so, what is the stroke, rod, & piston combination & what cubic inches were achieved? I want to run this motor in an alcohol fueled IMCA Modified race car. Is this motor capable of 7,000 RPM on a continuous basis? I'm currently running a 12 to 1 351W bored 30 over, but am looking for more power. Our class is a claim class on the motor so expensive forged parts can be bought for next to nothing, leaving me empty handed. Please respond if you have any information concerning this motor combo.
Thank you,
IMCA Modified #77

A 351C crank won't fit in the 351W due to the smaller main diameter (2.75" vs. 3.00"). The 351M crank can be made to fit with some machine work, but there's nothing to be gained as the stroke is the same. The 400V8 crank can be modified the same as a 351M crank (thrust areas, snout shortened and oil slinger modified) to fit the 351W and it's 4.00" stroke will give you 408 cid with a .030" overbore.
Dang...hit the wrong button. To finish what I was going to say; this motor will use Chevy 350V8 pistons and stock 351W rods and a rod:stroke ratio of only 1.48:1, I wouldn't attempt to give it a steady diet of 7000 rpm.
You can put a Cleveland crank in a production Windsor block, but you need a spacer kit and special bearings which can be purchased from an SVO Ford dealer.
